And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],

(45) Ayat ini menjelaskan bahwa mereka ikut terlibat dalam perbuatan orang yang tercela, yang tidak senang kepada Islam dan Nabi Muhammad dengan menuduh beliau pendusta atau tukang sihir yang gila. Mengenai Al-Qur'an mereka menganggapnya hanyalah sihir, syair, atau mantra untuk tenung. Pokoknya mereka terlibat dalam perbuatan kebatilan.
