58:16
ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟أَيْمَٰنَهُمْجُنَّةًفَصَدُّوا۟عَنسَبِيلِٱللَّهِفَلَهُمْعَذَابٌمُّهِينٌ ١٦

Saheeh International

They took their [false] oaths as a cover, so they averted [people] from the way of Allah, and for them is a humiliating punishment.

Tafseer 'Qurtubi Tafseer' (AR)

اتخذوا أيمانهم جنة يستجنون بها من القتل . وقرأ الحسن وأبو العالية " إيمانهم " بكسر الهمزة هنا ، وفي ( المنافقون ) . أي : إقرارهم اتخذوه جنة ، فآمنت ألسنتهم من خوف القتل ، وكفرت قلوبهم فلهم عذاب مهين في الدنيا بالقتل وفي الآخرة بالنار . فصدوا عن سبيل الله والصد المنع عن سبيل الله أي : عن الإسلام . وقيل : في قتلهم بالكفر لما أظهروه من النفاق . وقيل : أي : بإلقاء الأراجيف وتثبيط المسلمين عن الجهاد وتخويفهم .
