53:23
إِنْهِىَإِلَّآأَسْمَآءٌسَمَّيْتُمُوهَآأَنتُمْوَءَابَآؤُكُممَّآأَنزَلَٱللَّهُبِهَامِنسُلْطَٰنٍإِنيَتَّبِعُونَإِلَّاٱلظَّنَّوَمَاتَهْوَىٱلْأَنفُسُوَلَقَدْجَآءَهُممِّنرَّبِّهِمُٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ٢٣

Saheeh International

They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.

Tafseer 'Ibn Kathir' (AR)

"إن هي إلا أسماء سميتموها أنتم وآباؤكم" أي من تلقاء أنفسكم "ما أنزل الله بها من سلطان" أي من حجة "إن يتبعون إلا الظن وما تهوى الأنفس" أي ليس له مستند إلا حسن ظنهم بآبائهم الذين سلكوا هذا المسلك الباطل قبلهم وإلا حظ نفوسهم في رياستهم وتعظيم آبائهم الأقدمين "ولقد جاءهم من ربهم الهدى" أي ولقد أرسل الله إليهم الرسل بالحق المنير والحجة القاطعة ومع هذا ما اتبعوا ما جاؤهم به ولا انقادوا له.
