Ash-Shuraa : 40

42:40
وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟سَيِّئَةٍسَيِّئَةٌمِّثْلُهَافَمَنْعَفَاوَأَصْلَحَفَأَجْرُهُۥعَلَىٱللَّهِإِنَّهُۥلَايُحِبُّٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٤٠

Saheeh International

And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah . Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.

Tafseer 'Ibn Kathir' (AR)

قوله تبارك وتعالى "وجزاء سيئة سيئة مثلها" كقوله تعالى "فمن اعتدى عليكم فاعتدوا عليه بمثل ما اعتدى عليكم" وكقوله "وإن عاقبتم فعاقبوا بمثل ما عوقبتم به" الآية فشرع العدل وهو القصاص وندب إلى الفضل وهو العفو كقوله جل وعلا "والجروح قصاص فمن تصدق به فهو كفارة له" ولهذا قال ههنا "فمن عفا وأصلح فأجره على الله" أي لا يضيع ذلك عند الله كما صح ذلك في الحديث "وما زاد الله تعالى عبدا بعفو إلا عزا" وقوله تعالى "إنه لا يحب الظالمين" أي المعتدين وهو المبتدئ بالسيئة.
