وَمَاتَفَرَّقُوٓا۟إِلَّامِنۢبَعْدِمَاجَآءَهُمُٱلْعِلْمُبَغْيًۢابَيْنَهُمْوَلَوْلَاكَلِمَةٌسَبَقَتْمِنرَّبِّكَإِلَىٰٓأَجَلٍمُّسَمًّىلَّقُضِىَبَيْنَهُمْوَإِنَّٱلَّذِينَأُورِثُوا۟ٱلْكِتَٰبَمِنۢبَعْدِهِمْلَفِىشَكٍّمِّنْهُمُرِيبٍ ١٤

Saheeh International

And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt.

Tafseer 'Tafsir Ahsanul Bayaan' (UR)

ان لوگوں نے اپنے پاس علم آجانے کے بعد ہی اختلاف کیا اور وہ بھی باہمی ضد بحث سے اور اگر آپ کے رب کی بات ایک وقت تک کے لئے پہلے ہی سے قرار پا گئی ہوئی ہوتی تو یقیناً ان کا فیصلہ ہو چکا ہوتا (١) اور جن لوگوں کو ان کے بعد کتاب دی گئی وہ بھی اس کی طرف سے الجھن والے شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں۔ ١٤۔١ یعنی اگر ان کی بابت عقوبیت میں تاخیر کا فیصلہ پہلے سے نہ ہوتا تو فوراً عذاب بھیج کر ان کو ہلاک کر دیا جاتا۔
