40:5
كَذَّبَتْقَبْلَهُمْقَوْمُنُوحٍوَٱلْأَحْزَابُمِنۢبَعْدِهِمْوَهَمَّتْكُلُّأُمَّةٍۭبِرَسُولِهِمْلِيَأْخُذُوهُوَجَٰدَلُوا۟بِٱلْبَٰطِلِلِيُدْحِضُوا۟بِهِٱلْحَقَّفَأَخَذْتُهُمْفَكَيْفَكَانَعِقَابِ ٥

Saheeh International

The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.

Tafseer 'Tafsir Ahsanul Bayaan' (UR)

قوم نوح نے اور ان کے بعد کے گروہوں نے بھی جھٹلایا تھا۔ اور ہر امت نے اپنے رسول کو گرفتار کر لینے کا ارادہ کیا (١) اور باطل کے ذریعے جھوٹے بحث مباحثے کئے تاکہ ان سے حق کو بگاڑ دیں (٢) پس میں نے انہیں پکڑ لیا، سو میری طرف سے کیسی سزا ہوئی (٣)۔ ٥۔١ تاکہ اسے قید یا قتل کر دیں یا سزا دیں۔ ٥۔٢ یعنی اپنے رسولوں سے انہوں نے جھگڑا کیا، جس سے مقصود حق بات میں کیڑے نکالنا اور اسے کمزور کرنا تھا۔ ٥۔٣ چنانچہ میں نے ان حامیان باطل کو اپنے عذاب کی گرفت میں لے لیا، پس تم دیکھ لو ان کے حق میں میرا عذاب کس طرح آیا اور کیسے انہیں حرف غلط کی طرح مٹا دیا گیا یا انہیں نشان عبرت بنا دیا۔
