قَالُوٓا۟إِنَّاتَطَيَّرْنَابِكُمْلَئِنلَّمْتَنتَهُوا۟لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْوَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُممِّنَّاعَذَابٌأَلِيمٌ ١٨

Saheeh International

They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment."

Tafseer 'Qurtubi Tafseer' (AR)

قالوا لهم إنا تطيرنا بكم أي تشاءمنا بكم . قال مقاتل : حبس عنهم المطر ثلاث سنين فقالوا : هذا بشؤمكم . ويقال : إنهم أقاموا ينذرونهم عشر سنين . لئن لم تنتهوا عن إنذارنا لنرجمنكم قال الفراء : لنقتلنكم . قال : وعامة ما في القرآن من الرجم معناه القتل . وقال قتادة : هو على بابه من الرجم بالحجارة . وقيل : لنشتمنكم ، وقد تقدم جميعه . وليمسنكم منا عذاب أليم قيل : هو القتل . وقيل : هو التعذيب المؤلم . وقيل : هو التعذيب المؤلم قبل القتل كالسلخ والقطع والصلب .
