18:55
وَمَامَنَعَٱلنَّاسَأَنيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟إِذْجَآءَهُمُٱلْهُدَىٰوَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟رَبَّهُمْإِلَّآأَنتَأْتِيَهُمْسُنَّةُٱلْأَوَّلِينَأَوْيَأْتِيَهُمُٱلْعَذَابُقُبُلًا ٥٥

Saheeh International

And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.

Tafseer 'Tafsir Ahsanul Bayaan' (UR)

لوگوں کے پاس ہدایت آچکنے کے بعد انہیں ایمان لانے اور اپنے رب سے استغفار کرنے سے صرف اس چیز نے روکا کہ اگلے لوگوں کا سا معاملہ انہیں بھی پیش آئے (١) یا ان کے سامنے کھلم کھلا عذاب آ موجود ہو جائے (٢) ٥٥۔١ یعنی تکذیب کی صورت میں ان پر بھی اسی طرح عذاب آئے، جیسے پہلے لوگوں پر آیا۔ ٥٥۔٢ یعنی اہل مکہ ایمان لانے کے لئے ان دو باتوں میں سے کسی ایک کے منتظر ہیں۔ لیکن ان عقل کے اندھوں کو یہ پتہ نہیں کہ اس کے بعد ایمان کی کوئی حیثیت ہی نہیں یا اس کے بعد ایمان لانے کا ان کو موقع ہی کب ملے گا؟
