قُللَّوْكَانَمَعَهُۥٓءَالِهَةٌكَمَايَقُولُونَإِذًالَّٱبْتَغَوْا۟إِلَىٰذِىٱلْعَرْشِسَبِيلًا ٤٢

Saheeh International

Say, [O Muhammad], "If there had been with Him [other] gods, as they say, then they [each] would have sought to the Owner of the Throne a way."

Tafseer 'Baghawy Tafseer' (AR)

( قل ( يا محمد لهؤلاء المشركين ( لو كان معه آلهة كما يقولون ( قرأ حفص وابن كثير " يقولون " بالياء وقرأ الآخرون بالتاء ( إذا لابتغوا ( لطلبوا يعني الآلهة ( إلى ذي العرش سبيلا ( بالمبالغة والقهر ليزيلوا ملكه كفعل ملوك الدنيا بعضهم ببعض .وقيل : معناه لطلبوا إلى ذي العرش سبيلا بالتقرب إليه .قال قتادة : لعرفوا الله وفضله وابتغوا ما يقربهم إليه .والأول أصح .
